Roger

The London Times of May 24, 1884 has an ad that I think might be your Finlay:

BOMBAY, CALCUTTA, MADRAS, and
COLOMBO. Reduced Passenger Rates and Return Tickets,
for any period, on special terms, by CLAN LINE STEAMERS
sailing fortnightly to and from above Ports. Appy to Finlay, Muir
and Co., Bombay and Calcutta; or Cayzer, Irvine, and Co., Glasgow,
Liverpool, and Leadenhall-buildings, London.

In the Times of Sat. Dec 9, 1882 Mr Samuel Smith is running for
office and is said to to be a partner "in the firm of Messrs. James
Finlay and Co., merchants, and head of the firm of Messrs. Smith,
Edwards, and Co., cottonbrokers, of Liverpool."

Regards..

Marj
