In the London Times of May 9, 1855 under "Electric Telegraphic
Despatches." is this:
The ship Red Gauntlett, from London, bound to Sydney, put back in
consequence of having been in collision with the ship Howard, of
Hamburg, and sustained loss of bowsprit, foremast sprung, and other
damage about her bows, will go to London for repairs.
On Wednesday, May 30, 1855 in the same column is this:
Deal, Wednesday, 9.32 A.M.
Wind, N.N.E., strong.
Passed.--Emperor, for Algoa Bay; Red Gauntlett, for Sydney; Caroline
Elizabeth, for Colombo; Express, for Newfoundland--all from London.
That is the only mention I can find.
Regards..
Marj
