Further to the previous enquiry re shipping to Australia from India.
Could you please advise if ships travelling to Australia from India would
also have gone on to NZ ports afterwards?
I'm still wondering if my grandparents travelled directly back to New
Zealand or via Australia in 1907 or if they sailed back to England first
to have the chance for James Stroud to meet his inlaws in Stockport,
Manchester.
I recall Andrew Gatley telling me he met his brother in law when he visited
Manchester but that could have been a deCsw after his service finished in
India when he was with the NZ Expeditionary Forces in WW1 and as he had two
small boys, Maurice and Laurence, by this time there would have been no way
his wife would want to travel back to England with the children in war time.
Cheers
Ainslie.
