[TSL] William Carstairs & Family Scotland To Aust. 1850's (Getting Closer!)

Hello Again Folks,

 

I'm still trying to track down dates & ship for William Carstairs & family
out of Scotland, but I'm getting closer (I can nearly feel it!).

 

I've managed to establish that William & Agnes gave birth to a son, David
Carstairs, at sea on their way to Australia.

Unfortunately David's Death Certificate (he died in a drowning accident aged
25 on 5/9/1882), does not mention a ship name.

It just states "Born At Sea"  and "24 Years In Victoria".

 

However it fixes the year of sailing for me as either 1857 or 1858 (perhaps
squeezing into the years either side).

 

I've done a simple search on the Victorian 'Marine' Births Deaths &
Marriages' but no luck (life wasn't meant to be easy was it).

There was in fact a Carstairs born at sea in 1858 on this list, but his name
was Henry something or other!

 

It was likely to be a British registered ship so for those of you who know
the answers to such things, is there an easy way to try to track the ship
down that David was born on?

 

Hope someone can help.
