Thank you so much, Lorine. for your response. I did find that reference, but since the title was "Index. . . .1917-1950", and my Nicholas died in 1902, I just assumed it was a different Nicholas. I realize that the NARA Catalog title is "Petitions . . . compiled 1824-1991." Do you know how to reconcile these two different date ranges???? How great it would be if this is my Nicholas' reference.
