                 *new* for TheShipsList website http://www.theshipslist.com/

All the new and updated files and databases have been placed on their own
page(s)
Find them on the front page in between the big arrows
                                -------------->      <---------------

At the bottom of each of these pages I have placed links named " previous
month " and " next month " so you are able to navigate back and forth
between the monthly *new & updated* pages, as I only keep three months of
*new* page links on the Home page. New for April 2009 is . . .

         o Fleets:
           o Ropner & Company
o Sicula Oceanica S.p.A. / Grimaldi SIOSA Line

Two more Fleets ... thanks to Ted and Henk. Ropner & Co. includes 198
ships, Grimaldi only 9.

         o Passengers:
           o ...South Australia
o ship Navarino, from Plymouth to Port Adelaide 16th July 1857
o barque Sumner, from Southampton to Port Adelaide 21st August 1857
o ship Henry Moore, from Plymouth to Port Adelaide 13th
September 1857

Three more 1857 lists .. the SUMNER brought 270 emigrants, the NAVARINO
brought the smallest number of emigrants, at 220 (a lot of drama though ...
story included) and the HENRY MOORE brought the largest number of
emigrants, at 450. Only three more ships to finish 1857, carrying about
830 passengers.

Some interesting stats for 1857 assisted emigration to South Australia

 >>> There were born at sea, on board the ships above-mentioned, 65
children, of whom 31 were males, and 34 were females. There were 31 deaths
amongst the emigrants, including 5 persons over 12 years of age. and 26
children, of whom 21 were infants. The total of persons embarked was 3,931,
to which, if we add the balance of births over deaths on the voyage, we
reach a total of 3,965 souls landed.

Referring to the counties whence last year's immigration was derived, we
find that Cornwall has the lion's share, as many as 1,283 persons having
come thence - or a fraction more than one-half of the entire English
population. The principal portion of these consists of miners, of whom 629
landed on our shores last year.
The English counties contributing next in order stand thus:-
Devonshire, 163 ; Somersetshire, 150 ; Middlesex, 106 ; Lancashire and
Surrey, each 63 ; Wiltshire, 59 ; Monmouthshire and Buckinghamshire, each
51 ; Kent, 40 ; Norfolk and Durham, each 42 ; Northamptonshire, 37 ;
Suffolk and Glamorganshire, each 35 ; Cambridgeshire, 32 ; and the other
English counties, smaller numbers.
Ireland supplied 507 from County Clare, 128 from Tipperary, 75 each from
Limerick and Cavan. 72 from Galway, 71 from Kilkenny, 66 from Cork, 38 from
Fermanagh, 37 from Tyrone, 34 each from Wicklow and King's County, and
smaller numbers from the other Counties.
Scotland sent 43 from Lanark, and 22 from Ayr, the other counties varying
in their numbers from 1 to 9. <<<
