I was wondering if anyone with Ancestry.com could do a look up for me. I am looking for a birth in Allegany County, New York or Allegany County, Pennsylvania in 1850. The birth would have been for Ellen Cecilia Kane born August 13, 1850. Her parents were John and Mary Kane.
Maybe John and Mary may be listed in a 1850 census.
I do not have Ancestry.com
I am trying to find out which state she was born in.
Thank you for all your help
Patricia

Subject: [TSL] Please any help appreciatted
I am looking for any info re a relative Walter Crossley who was born in
Pittsburgh in the States according to War Records he was born in 1891 but
according to Census records in Belfast Northern Ireland he was born in 1893.
He is listed in the 1911 Census of Belfast Northern Ireland as living with
my Great Aunt Eliza Tate(nee Crossley) and is stated as Walter Crossley aged
18yrs Machine Boy born USA - Relative thus making his birth 1893
I did find a Walter Crossley on a ships record which stopped at Ellis Island
and he is listed as about 1 month old and with his mother. I do not think
this is the same Walter as the dates do not seem correct but then as I have
been told already many dates which are given are not correct
However it is
the War Grave Commission that give his birth date as 1891 .
He enlisted in Belfast N. Ireland around 1914/15 and joined the Royal Irish
rifles 8th battalion 36th Ulster Division and was sent to France
He fought in the Battle of the Somme and sadly on the 2nd day of the main
battle he was killed and his body never found. He is remembered at Thiepval
Memorial in France where we are going this year to see it and the area
His death according to the War Graves Commission is given as the 2nd of July
1916 thus making him 25, so the Census of N. Ireland in 1911 and the death
age given are in conflict .
This man was a relative and my sister has his War medals which were found in
my Dads house when he died, yet no one seems to know anything more about him
I should love to find any record re this Walter Crossley and perhaps if he
is recorded with any of his family on a ship from Pittsburgh to Belfast
Northern Ireland though which year I do not know but definitely before
1911. So he msut have left Pittsburgh before 1911 since he is recorded in
Belfast in 1911 and then died in 1916
I do have some names of our family relatives but so far am unable to link
them to Walter and thus still dearly want to locate the names of his parents
and any siblings
I seemed to have exhausted mush of my research and also have written to
Pittsburgh for his Birth Certificate but they cannot find it , s
o I begin to
wonder where he was born, since I also had someone search the Belfast
records and they found nothing re his birth but surely he has to have been
recorded somewhere or could he have been born at sea ??? I so much want to
see whom he was in the family and why it seems so difficult to find his
details
Any help at all appreciated and if I am required to join with a fee, the
ships list I am only to happy to do that
Thanking your for reading this and hoping to hear any info or advice
