I am trying to figure out what kind of ship captaining my ggg grandfather
did in NYC beginning in 1803; I have a poster of a ship of which he was the
master in 1807; I know that in 1815-16 he worked for Lynch and Amar,
merchants, between there and the W Indies; on a photo/portrait I have of him
it says that he sailed passenger ships between NYC and England. Old shipping
ads only give the last name of the Captain, and there were several Swain
captains at the same time; What resource can I use to figure out what he
spent his time doing. Sue
