Re: [TSL] Port of Arrival New York about 1880

It would appear your Mathias and family arrived earlier than 1880--assuming the family below is the one you want.  Here is the entry from Ancestry's index to NY arrivals, followed by my quick trascription of what I saw on the list image:

Name:   Maths Droll
Arrival Date:   28 Oct 1872
Age:   9
Gender:   Male
Port of Departure:   Liverpool, England
Destination:   United States of America
Place of Origin:   Sweden
Ship Name:   City Of Washington
Port of Arrival:   New York
Line:   31
Microfilm Roll:   368
List Number:   1166

243 Johann Leppard, 45, Sweden, to US, Main Steerage
244 Cath Leppard, 43, wife
245 Math Droll, 9, child
246 Banton? Droll, 6, child
247 Cath Lippard, 3, child
248 Elizabeth Leppard, 3, child
249 Christian or Anselm? Leppard, 1, infant

This came from:
Ancestry.com. New York Passenger Lists, 1851-1891 [database online]. Provo, Utah: MyFamily.com, Inc., 2003. Original data: New York. Passenger Lists of Vessels Arriving at New York, New York, 1820-1897. Micropublication M237. Rolls # 95-580. National Archives, Washington, D.C.

You should look to find a copy of the list on microfilm at the National Archives, an LDS family history center, or perhaps through a library.   To learn more about finding the microfilm, try http://germanroots.home.att.net/ellisisland/nypassengers.html
