[TSL] -1740 - North of England/South of Scotland - USA

I am trying to glean information on my ancestor, Richard Robinson.b.about
1715 in England.  His son, Charles Sr., was born 1740 on the voyage to USA,
but the point of departure or the point of landing is not known.  His
mother, Richard's wife, must have died in childbirth.  According to old
writings in our family, she was buried at sea.  Some of these old writings
indicate Charles had a sister, Julia, but we have no dates on her.  There
may have been one other brother but facts are extremely vague here.

Richard Robinson became an indian trader in Vermont and Eastern New York.
He married an indian woman (no name) but mention is made in these
referenced old writings, that Richard's children and his own brother,
Edward, were appalled that Richard would marry from the same tribe that
scalped Edward (who obviously survived the scalping).

I understand that during this time frame, there was a lot of activity and
interest in the Charles of James Stuart of the time and certain jacobite
movements made it expedient to go and arrive without observation, but I am
really having a hard time tracking this guy down.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
